Winter activities
In the winter, St. Margarethen has much to offer away from the slopes as
well. Leave your skis behind for once and enjoy the fairytale-like winter
scenery out on a sleigh ride.
Or do you still want to be as
active as possible?
Then try your hand at ice skating or
put your skills to the test in a game of ice stock.
A toboggan ride
also guarantees all kinds of fun. Out on a winter hike, a snowshoeing
expedition or a ski tour, you can also explore the
glorious winter countryside of the Lungau.
Ice skating & ice stock
Ice skating - also
possible in the evenings (2 x weekly) under the lights at the local sports
grounds / ice skating rink; set up a time and you can also try your luck at ice
stock (group events)

Tobogganing
Right next to the valley station of the
Aineck - Katschberg ski area in St. Margarethen, you will find the exciting
toboggan run by the Fischerkogel lift. On the Katschberg there is a floodlit,
1.5 km-long toboggan run from the Gamskogelhütte to the Katschberghöhe, which is
lit up on Tuesday and Saturday from 5:00 to 10:00 pm. At the Gamskogelhütte you can rent a toboggan for 4€ apiece.

Ski tours & snowshoe hikes
Experience the Lungau
winter a bit differently: make your way out across the deep snow with special
snowshoes. Far away from the slopes and ski lifts, discover the magnificent
snow-covered countryside and leave your own tracks in the fresh, pristine snow.
For example, from the Katschberg P1 up the Aineck, then down to St. Margarethen.

Winter hiking paths
The "Leisnitz Water Path" hike begins at the "Water
Stone" in the center of town, below the church, at the Löckerwirt parking lot,
or in front of the village hall, where children can also pick up a treasure map.
Here you can experience the snow-covered nature alongside this wildwater stream
and perhaps even find the dwarf in his cave. Close your eyes, take in all the scents and sounds, and feel the power of nature and water.
At the end of the path you can see a frozen waterfall up close. If you continue hiking past the Römerstein,
the path leads to Gasthof Schlögelberger, where you can visit the wildlife park.
From here the road will lead you back into town.
